What are the chances of attaining perfect vision after LASIK surgery?
The post-operative result, and particularly the satisfaction of the patients
depend on several factors.
Scientific studies generally publish results by giving data of the post-operative
visual acuity without correction, and then also with the best correction.
Besides that, testing is done in increments in order to examine the stability
of the result (immediately after surgery, up to one year after the operation).
Since the Excimer Laser has been approved, almost all studies unanimously
show good results when LASIK is used for mild to average myopia (up to maximum
of –10 diopter. Thus the following applies: the lower the myopia, the
more dependable is the result). If an astigmatism is present, this can also
be treated. The strength then influences the total result. Read about the

What are possible complications and risks of LASIK surgery?
Most [greater than 90%] patients do achieve significant improvement in vision
after surgery. However the possibilty exists, although only slightly, that
your procedure may result in vision that requires that you still wear glasses
for some activities, e.g. driving at night. Halos, double vision, as well
as increased sensitivity to glare can lead to problems with driving at night.
Halos show up more when the pupil of the patient opens beyond the treatment
zone in the dark (quite often with myopia above –5 diopters and hyperopia).

LASIK - Quality comes first
It has been proven many times that successful LASIK surgery requires a high degree of precision, professionalism, and trustworthiness. These requirements are not only relevant to surgery, they already begin during the patients’ preliminary examination. Several diagnostic procedures were developed within the last few years, which in part may directly influence the result of LASIK surgery. By incorporating cornea topography, e.g. the Orbscan system, individual irregularities of the cornea surface can be determined, fed into the Excimer Laser, and consequently corrected. Once the results of the examination are available, the technician gives the patient advice, based on data from the examination. A technician, with many years of extensive experience, can use an internal quality management system, and if need be, openly discuss any existing doubts the patient may have concerning surgery, and share the information with the patient.
